How To Use Our SBT Seed Oil For Rosacea

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face, although some sufferers report rosacea symptoms on the chest and shoulders. Symptoms include thicker, yet more fragile skin; swelling and redness; visibly engorged blood vessels; papules, pustules and cysts that resemble acne; permanently thickened and disfigured skin tissue, particularly of the nose; unusually fast and intense flushing; and chemical and/or tactile sensitivity (pain or flare-ups of symptoms induced by contact with cosmetics, cleaners, clothing, etc.).

Rosacea affects an estimated 45 million people worldwide. The main demographic is white women from 30-50, and incidences of rosacea appear to be on the increase.

What causes rosacea?

The causes of rosacea are not yet known. As with migraine headaches (also a vascular disorder), researchers have been peeling back the layers of cause and effect like so many layer of onion skin. In other words, as with migraines, many aspects of rosacea that were believed to be causes have now been recognised as either effects of the disorder or co-symptoms.[1] Some examples include the chronic engorgement and weakness of blood vessels, and the presence of the Demodex mite.

Rosacea is suspected of having immune, allergic, hereditary, hormonal, gastrointestinal and even neurological origins. Most rosacea treatments have immunosuppressant and/or anti-inflammatory effects.

Conventional rosacea treatments include steroids and antibiotics, neither of which has been shown to work long-term nor without side effects. Of the currently accepted treatments, only laser surgery and seabuckthorn have been shown to effectively manage rosacea, and only seabuckthorn does so without side effects.

[1] In fact, rosacea sufferers are more likely to also have migraine disease.

How does seabuckthorn help rosacea?

Seabuckthorn heals rosacea through several channels: applied topically it softens, thins and strengthens the skin and reduces scarring; reduces swelling and inflammation; acts as an anti-microbial and mild analgesic; strengthens cell and blood vessel walls; and nourishes transdermally (through the skin).

Taken internally, seabuckthorn moderates and regulates the inflammatory, immune and endocrine (hormonal) systems; strengthens the cardiovascular system (including tiny blood vessels) and the gastrointestinal system (implicated in rosacea); slows cell death and improves overall health.

How do we treat rosacea?

At Seabuckthorn International, we believe that this relentless disorder requires a three-pronged approach, incorporating skincare, lifestyle changes, and nutritional therapy; and our two rosacea treatment packages plus our supplementary documentation have been carefully constructed to help rosacea sufferers incorporate all three into their rosacea treatment strategy.

Scientists are beginning to realize that rosacea is not just a skin problem; it is rather a symptom of a whole system severely out of balance and unable to respond appropriately to challenges to the immune system and inflammatory responses. As such, in addition to lifestyle changes including avoiding triggers, developing healthy diet and exercise routines, eliminating chemical irritants and working on mind-body balancing, we feel that both internal and external seabuckthorn application is critical to recovery.

Our basic rosacea starter package contains what we deem to be absolutely essential to the treatment of rosacea: a gentle, seabuckthorn oil-infused cleansing bar, seabuckthorn seed oil for topical application, and seabuckthorn seed oil capsules for nutritional therapy. We recommend against the use of creams during the beginning of treatment; we’ve found that plain seabuckthorn oil is the best topical treatment.

We feel that rosacea sufferers have the best chance of healing with the help of additional internal treatments, therefore our full rosacea package includes seabuckthorn leaf tea, full of anti-inflammatories and antioxidants, and flavone capsules made from the fruit pulp of the seabuckthorn berry, in addition to the soap, seed oil and seed oil capsules included with the starter package.   [Top]

The Seabuckthorn plant, (Hippophae rhamnoides) is so rich in vitamins and nutrients that it has been speculated that the plant must have been cultivated by some ancient plant-breeder. Seabuckthorn is a true Super Fruit.

The fruit, leaves, bark and seeds of seabuckthorn contain over 190 nutrients necessary to bodily health. Clinical trials and scientific studies conducted during 20th century in several countries are confirming the medicinal and nutritional value of Seabuckthorn.

Seabuckthorn oils  have been used for centuries as a skin care remedy, with reported skin nourishing, revitalizing and restorative actions. Seabuckthorn oil is widely used to promote the recovery of various skin conditions, including eczema, burns, bedsores and poorly healing wounds, as well as the skin damaging effects of sun, therapeutic radiation treatment and laser surgery.
